On Saturday, January 20, 2018, a special event organized by the Organization of Istanbul Armenians was held at the organization’s center commemorating the 11th anniversary of Hrant Dink’s assassination. On behalf of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, Holy Martyrs Church pastor Archpriest Fr. Razmig Khatchadourian attended.
Opening remarks were delivered by OIA Trustee and Cultural Committee Chair Dr. Ohannes Kulak Avedikyan. OIA Board of Trustees Chair Mr. Edvin Minassian served as Master of Ceremonies. Turk professors and scholars from various American universities were the featured keynote speakers. The annual “Hrant Dink Spirit of Freedom and Justice Medal” was awarded to Mr. Sarkis Hatspanian in absentia. Mr. Hatspanian, who passed away earlier that day, was a French-Armenian activist, childhood friend and comrade of Hrant Dink.
On the afternoon of the same day, requiem service was offered at the Montebello Genocide Memorial Monument in memory of Hrant Dink. Holy Cross Cathedral pastor Rev. Fr. Ashod Kambourian participated on behalf of the Prelate.
