On Sunday, October 20, 2019, the annual gala of the Armenian National Committee of America Western Region was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel with the participation of elected officials, representatives of community organizations, sponsors and supporters. H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, attended and delivered the invocation. H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Vicar General, and Executive Council members were in attendance.
In keeping with a longstanding tradition, during the event a number of individuals were honored for their contributions to the advancement of the Armenian Cause. A special tribute was held for lifelong community leader and benefactor Hacop Baghdassarian.
The program began with the national anthems by Anahit Nersesyan.
The Prelate delivered the invocation, which he began by thanking God for the opportunity to once again collectively recognize and honor another year of relentless efforts in advancing the Armenian Cause. His Eminence blessed the leadership, staff, and each and every volunteer of the ANCA-WR who tirelessly educate, mobilize, and garner support and awareness not just for the Armenian Cause but for all ethnic groups who have suffered and continue to suffer from injustice, persecution, and genocide. He blessed this year’s award recipients for their contributions to our cause and community, the public officials for their solidarity, and the sponsors for endless generosity. He paid tribute to Hacop Baghdassarian, “whose absence is deeply felt within our community and in our national life in Armenia, Artsakh, and Javakhk, but whose incredible legacy of service and generosity will never be forgotten.” The Prelate concluded by praying for the Lord to guide us to the fulfillment of our ultimate goals and to safeguard the Armenian nation and people.
Welcoming remarks were delivered Gala Committee Chair Marie Filipian. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti conveyed his greetings, Chairperson Nora Hovsepian delivered the ANCA-WR’s message, and Ambassador of Armenia to the U.S. His Excellency Varuzhan Nersesyan Remarks conveyed his remarks.
The presentation of awards took place after dinner.
Closing remarks were delivered by California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis.
