Burial of Christ Commemorated in Prelacy Churches

On Good Friday, April 14, 2017, the burial of our Lord Jesus Christ was commemorated within Prelacy Churches with a solemn and moving service including reproductions of Christ’s tomb, draped in flowers brought by the faithful.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, conducted the service and delivered his message at Forty Martyrs Church in Orange County. The burial of Christ was not an end, rather a precursor to eternal life. Jesus endured human suffering, He died on the cross for the redemption of sin, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. With the sealing of the tomb, the Chief Priests believed they had succeeded in bringing an end to His life and ministry. Three days later, however, the empty tomb signaled that death was defeated,Christ was resurrected, and the promise of salvation and eternal life granted to mankind, And so, when we bow in reverence and pray before Christ’s tomb, it is not death that we see before us, but life, life that we are granted by His resurrection, stated the Prelate.
