On Wednesday, June 6, 2012, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, attended the 6th annual CASPS reception honoring outstanding Armenian high school students from the Los Angeles Unified School District was held at Grant High School. Religious Council Chair Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian and Executive Council member Ms. Ani Mgrdichian-Garikian accompanied the Prelate.
This annual event is organized by the Committee of Armenian Students in Public Schools to honor students from the 9th – 12th grades who have achieved academic excellence. 165 students were honored this year.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by CASPS Executive Director Arsineh Hovannisian. The Master of Ceremonies was Grant High School Assistant Principal Ms. Zepure Kevork. CASPS Chairman Mr. Rouben Gourjian delivered remarks on behalf of the Committee. Glendale City Clerk Mr. Ardashes Kassakhian delivered the keynote address.
The Prelate began his message by congratulating and applauding the students on their achievement. He advised them to always thank God for His bountiful blessings in their lives and to thank their parents and teachers for their support, encouragement, and for instilling in them the foundations of success. He urged them to make good use of the tools and resources provided to them in high school and to learn as much as they can during this time, to never forget the values, ethics, and morals they were raised with, and to remember that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance. The Prelate also reminded them of their responsibilities to one another and to our community as Armenian-Americans, and urged them to set an example to others with their good deeds and to serve our community to the fullest to make society a better place for all. In conclusion, he thanked the members and volunteers of CASPS, principals, teachers, and parents for their support and guidance of our youth.
The program included the presentation of certificates of commendation. Six students received scholarship from CASPS and the Armenian Educational Foundation.
