Centennial Celebration of the ARS Hollywood “Mayr” Chapter

This year marks the centennial anniversary of the ARS Hollywood “Mayr” Chapter and the 50th anniversary of the ARS Saturday School. The first celebration of these dual anniversaries was held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at St. Garabed Church “Karapetian” Hall in Hollywood, while the second, a banquet, will be held on Saturday, March 17.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, attended and conveyed his congratulatory message. He was joined by Archpriest Fr. Vicken Vassilian.

The program began with welcoming remarks by Mrs. Mayda Chahinian, which was followed by the flag ceremony conducted by Homenetmen Los Angeles Chapter scouts and anthems by Saturday School students. The Chapter’s remarks were delivered by Mrs. Margo Seropian, “Karekin Njdeh” Gomideh’s remarks by Mrs. Dzovinar Ghazarian, and ARS Regional Executive’s remarks by Mrs. Arsho Avakian. The keynote speaker was Dr. Hasmig Baran.

The program included a video presentation on the Chapter’s history and cultural performances by Salpi and Sossy Kerkonian, Mrs. Heghine Harboyan accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Lena Tufenkjian, ARS “Mary Postoian” Pre-School and ARS Saturday School students.

The Prelate delivered his message, commending and congratulating the Chapter’s leadership and members for their devoted service, as well as the Central and Regional Executives, stating that he has witnessed their exemplary humanitarian and educational service from the earliest days of his service within the community. “Faithful to your oath, you have served for the welfare of our compatriots in Armenia, Artskah, and Javakh, meeting the needs of the sick, the needy, students, and more, and the “Mayr” Chapter has offered valuable humanitarian and charitable services to this community and to our nation,” said the Prelate, and concluded by blessing the memory of our founders and wishing continued successes to those carrying on their legacy.

The celebration concluded with the benediction delivered by Fr. Vicken and “Cilicia” sung by Mr. Hovannes Balian, after which guests enjoyed a reception at the adjacent Armenian Center.
