Christmas Eve Divine Liturgy at St. Sarkis Church in Pasadena

On Sunday, January 5, 2014, the eve of the Feast of the Nativity and Theophany of our Lord was celebrated in Prelacy Churches with Divine Liturgy and the traditional lighting of the candle service (Jrakalooyts) symbolizing the light of Christ coming into the world.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, celebrated Christmas Eve Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon at St. Sarkis Church in Pasadena.  Parish Pastor Rev. Fr. Boghos Baltayan assisted at the altar.

In his message, His Eminence emphasized that God’s gift to mankind of Christ’s Birth brings to us the message and example of love, sacrifice, and humility that we are to follow.

At the conclusion of Divine Liturgy Holy Communion was offered, after which the Jrakalooyts service began.  Faithful lit their candles from the flame of a candle brought from the holy altar as the Church echoed with Christmas hymns.  Faithful later took the candles home to spread the light of Christ throughout their homes and to loved ones.
