Community Activist Ohannes Kulak Avedikyan Honored for 50 Years of Service

On Sunday, March 24, 2019, a special event was held at the Organization of Istanbul Armenians (OIA) center honoring lifetime honorary member, OIA trustee and Cultural Committee Chairman Dr. Ohannes Kulak Avedikyan for his 50 years of activism for the Armenian people and nation and 40 years of service to the OIA.

Rev. Fr. Ashod Kambourian represented H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, read and presented his letter of blessing and commendation to the honoree. Among the guests in attendance were leaders and representatives of the three Armenian churches and political parties, and of community and compatriotic organizations.

The event featured remarks by Dr. Avedikyan’s colleagues and friends, including Prof. Osheen Keshishian, Prof. Taner Akcam, Edvin Minassian, Tomik Alexanian, Maggie Mangassarian-Goschin, the honoree’s former student Raffi Hermon Araks, and his son Manoug Avedikyan. The cultural program included music, song, dance, and recitation. Rosaline Madoyan served as the Master of Ceremonies.

In his letter, His Eminence congratulated and commended Dr. Avedikyan for the well-deserved recognition in honor of his half-century of service to our nation as an advocate for our culture, literature, and heritage in general through the OIA and beyond. The Prelate also commended Dr. Avedikyan’s proficiency in our literature, history, and culture, which gives even more credence to his service, and described him as a faithful student and torchbearer keeping alive the legacy of the renaissance generation of Istanbul’s Armenians. His Eminence concluded by commending the OIA and wishing them continues success in their service to our culture and cause.

The honoree received numerous plaques and mementos on behalf of various organizations, and expressed his utmost gratitude to all for their presence and support.
