Easter Memorial Day

In accordance with Armenian Apostolic Church traditions, the day after the five major feast days is designated as a day of prayer in memory of deceased loved ones. Thus, on Monday, April 21, 2014, Easter Memorial Day or Merelots services were held at Hollywood Hills Forest Lawn “Hall of Liberty” and Glendale Forest Lawn “Church of the Recessional”.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, presided over the service at Hollywood Hills Forest Lawn. Prelacy clergy participated in both services.

Merelots2Rev. Fr. Karekin Bedourian explained the meaning of the service, stating that filled with the hope of the Resurrection and comforted by the promise of resurrection for the living and the dead at the Second Coming of Christ, they had gathered to pray for all deceased of the Armenian nation.

The Prelate then presided over the requiem service, during which clergy members read names of deceased loved ones provided by the faithful, beseeching the Lord’s mercy upon all.

The Blessing of the Four Corners of the World (Antasdan) followed in the courtyard, during which the blessing of graves was also conducted.  The service concluded with the Lord’s Prayer and “Cilicia”.
