On Thursday, May 5, 2016, the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord was celebrated traditionally with Divine Liturgy followed by a luncheon organized by the Prelacy Ladies Auxiliary.
The day began with Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale presided over by H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, and with the participation of clergy members. Archpriest Fr. Vicken Vassilian celebrated Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon.
The luncheon followed at Metropol Banquet Hall in Glendale with the attendance of around 250 guests. This year’s event was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Nerses and Marousha Artan. The program began with welcoming remarks by Ladies Auxiliary Chair Mrs. Dzovig Zetlian. Vice-Chair Mrs. Vartoug Avedikian served as the MC. Fr. Vicken spoke about the religious and national traditions associated with the Feast. The cultural program included performances by singer Gagik Badalyan and sisters Patille and Cynthia Albarian from Patille Dance Studio. Guests sang traditional songs and participated in the drawing of lots. The festive atmosphere inspired donations from the guests.
In his message, the Prelate commended the Ladies Auxiliary members, who worked diligently for weeks to ensure an enjoyable event and presented a plaque to Mr. and Mrs. Artan for their generosity. Mrs. Artan was also commended with a beautiful bouquet by the Ladies Auxiliary. The Prelate also thanked all the donors and guests in attendance, which included members of the Armenian Relief Society and our parishes’ Ladies Guilds.
