On Saturday, February 13, 2016, the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord was commemorated in Prelacy Churches with a special service which included the blessing of children and bonfire lighting. H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, presided over the service at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale. As is tradition, Homenetmen members and scouts participated in the service. This year’s service was distinctive in that 28 scouts, who in the past months had been following a special religious educational program, were presented with the St. Mesrob Mashdots religious scouting emblem for successfully completing the course.
In his message, the Prelate gave an account of the historical event surrounding the feast, explaining how Simeon the Elder, who was promised by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he saw the Lord Christ, went to the Temple on that day when Joseph and Mary brought the baby Jesus to present Him to God. The Prelate stated that this feast is an invitation to all to draw near to God and to serve Him with faith and devotion, especially in this year proclaimed the Year of Service by His Holiness Aram I. The fundamental message of this feast is for us to collectively dedicate ourselves to God and to collectively serve our church and nation, stressed the Prelate, and stating that dedication to God and service begins at the home, thus urged the faithful to preserve our religious and national heritage within their homes and provide proper instruction to the younger generations especially. His Eminence conveyed his blessings to the faithful, praying for the Light of Christ to illuminate their lives, and blessed and commended in particular the Homenetmen scouts.
Assisted by clergy, the Prelate then blessed the St. Mesrob Mashdots emblems and presented them to the scouts. Parents were then invited to present their children to the priests for blessing.
