Ferrahian School 8th Grade Students Commemorate Vartanants During Visit to the Prelacy

On Thursday, February 14, 2019, the 8th grade class of Ferrahian School, accompanied by Vice-Principal Vartkes Nalbandian and teachers, paid a visit to the Prelacy where they honored the legacy of the Vartanants saints through a program of recitations and songs. The visit began at the “St. Dertad and St. Ashkhen” Chapel with prayer and the singing of the hymn dedicated to St. Vartanants led by H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, who was joined by Archpriest Fr. Nareg Pehlivanian.

The visit continued at “Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian” Hall. On behalf of her classmates, Sarah Selimian thanked the Prelate for his hospitality and stated that the program was dedicated to the battle of Avarayr. Group by group, the students recited nationalistic poems and sang patriotic songs dedicated to the martyrs of the battle of Avarayr and of the Artsakh liberation movement, as well as to the February Uprising.

His Eminence commended the students for their spirited performances through which he relived his adolescent years, he stated. The Prelate outlined the Prelacy’s mission, noting that preserving and promoting our centuries-old religious and national heritage among our students is a key component of that mission. Next, he briefly spoke of the feasts which are celebrated in February, among them the Presentation of our Lord to the Temple, St. Ghevontiants, and St. Vartanants, as well as the remembrance of the February Uprising and start of the Artsakh Liberation Movement, all of which celebrate our allegiance to our faith and national identity and the heroism of our forefathers. The Prelate concluded by inviting the students to keep the spirit and legacy of our heroes alive, and also to appreciate the sacrifices of their parents and teachers. The program concluded with “Cilicia” and the Armenian national anthem.

The Prelate gifted the students with copies of Jacques Hagopian’s “Mesrobaveb” book, crosses, and illustrated religious leaflets, while the students presented an Armenian-themed memento. Afterward, the students were given a tour of the Prelacy to become better familiarized with the endeavors of each department.
