Forty Martyrs Church of Orange County Celebrates Name Day with Episcopal Divine Liturgy and Madagh Blessing

On Sunday, March 15, 2015, Forty Martyrs Church of Orange County commemorated its name day with Divine Liturgy and the blessing of madagh by H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate. Parish Pastor Rev. Fr. Karekin Bedourian and deacons assisted in the service.

The Prelate focused the first part of his sermon on the legacy of the forty brave martyrs of Sebastia, exemplars of faith who trusted solely in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and fearlessly became martyrs for the faith, and invited the faithful to follow the example of unwavering faith and ceaseless prayer of the forty martyrs.

His Eminence tied in the message of the Forty Martyrs with the day’s reading on the Sunday of the Judge, a lesson on the value of perseverance as demonstrated by the persistent widow. If the Unjust Judge relented and answered the request of the widow, suppose how much more a loving and just God will hear our appeals so long as we persist in our prayers and place our utmost faith and trust in His holy will, stated the Prelate. His Eminence concluded by congratulating the parish family and wishing them continued successes in their service for the advancement of the church and community.

During the service, Fr. Karekin expressed gratitude to the Prelate for joining the parish on their special day and thanked madagh sponsors Sarkis and Manoushag Yegenian. During the requiem service, prayers were offered for those who contributed to the establishment and progress of the parish, and also for the loved ones of the madagh sponsors.

At the conclusion of the service, the procession headed to “Gugasian” Hall where the Prelate blessed the madagh that was prepared by the Ladies Guild. The ceremony came to a close with the Cilician and Armenian anthems. The Prelate once again commended and congratulated the parish and community members for their dedicated service.
