On Sunday, March 22, 2015, over 350 friends and sponsors gathered at Island Hotel in Newport Beach for a fundraising gala benefiting the renovation project of Forty Martyrs Church of Orange County, and simultaneously the 29th anniversary celebration of Ari Guiragos Minassian School. H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, presided over the gala organized by the Board of Trustees and Project Renovation Committee. Executive Council Chair Mr. Vahe Hovaguimian was among the guests in attendance.
The program began with the invocation by Rev. Fr. Karekin Bedourian, followed by welcoming remarks by Committee member Mr. Kevork Keshishian. Guests viewed videos on the revitalization of the community and on the legacy of the church. Remarks were also delivered by Mrs. Aline Ohanessian, author of “Orhan’s Inheritance”. Congressman Ed Royce delivered the evening’s keynote address. On the occasion of AG Minassian School’s 29th anniversary, Principal Kohar Zaher was honored by the Parent-Teacher Organization for her years of dedicated service. Project Renovation Committee member Chris Guldjian provided an overview of the project and of the different phases which encompass the renovation of the church, hall, conference center, and courtyard. He acknowledged the main sponsors, Julian and Aleen Movsesian (Benefactor of the Year Award), Levon and Zarouhi Gugasian (Legacy Award), Dikran and Peggy Sulahian (Sulahian Retreat), Bedig and Maro Fermanian (Genocide Monument Renovation), George and Siroon Gemayel (Dedication and Service Award), and gala hosts Raffi and Aleen Kradjian, all of whom were commended for their generous support.
The official program came to a close with the Prelate’s message. His Eminence nostalgically recalled his tenure as pastor of the parish thirty years earlier, during which the consecration of the church was conducted by H.H. Karekin II, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia. “The vision and dreams of the founding generation came to fruition with the establishment of the church, school, hall, and adjacent complex. Many of the founding members and sponsors are no longer with us, but they would certainly be proud of the work being carried out today. Today we do have with us their colleagues and successors, who remain a constant presence in the life of the church and the school,” said the Prelate. Thus, he blessed and commended all those committed to advancing the vision of the founders, the Pastor, Board of Trustees, Ladies Guild members, school administration, committee members and volunteers who are united under the “One Community, One Cause, One Future” motto, and urged them to continue to serve with humility to build on the successes of the past. The Prelate also commended the sponsors and called on them to continue to lend their support and contributions. Thirty years ago this community was able to raise 0,000 in one evening; tonight we can do the same with your collective generosity, concluded the Prelate.
