Holy Tuesday at St. Garabed Church in Hollywood

On Tuesday, March 31, 2015, Holy Tuesday was commemorated throughout Prelacy parishes, with H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, presiding over the service at St. Garabed Church in Hollywood. Parish Pastor Archpriest Fr. Vicken Vassilian, deacons and acolytes participated in the service.

Sunday School students represented the Ten Maidens in the parable that is commemorated on this day. As the Gospel readings were read, the ten young students stood with lit candles in hand representing the lamps carried by the maidens who went out to meet the bridegroom in the parable. As the verse of the arrival of the bridegroom was read, five of the students extinguished their candles symbolizing the five foolish maidens who did not have the forethought to take extra oil with them, an allusion to the foolish individuals who do not prepare for the Second Coming of Christ.

The Prelate delivered his message to the faithful reminding them that we must be alert and prepared spiritually at all times, in a sense to carry extra oil, so that we are ready to welcome Christ, the Bridegroom at any time.

There are those who fulfill the will of God for His glory, then there are those who do good but for individual gain and to fulfill their own will, and finally there are those whose works are contrary to God’s will, said the Prelate, adding that the other message of the day’s parable is that as Christians we must do that which is God’s will and bring glory to Him, so that we are worthy of receiving His grace. The Prelate concluded by conveying his blessings to the faithful and to the students in particular.
