Monday, March 26, marks the start of Holy Week, a somber week filled with poignant services commemorating significant events in the last days of our Lord’s earthly ministry.
On Holy Tuesday we recall the parable of the Ten Maidens and the message to be ready at all times for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Maundy Thursday encompasses a number of services; in the morning we recall the institution of the sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. In the afternoon, through the Washing of the Feet service, we are reminded of the message of humility and service to others. In the evening, the solemn Vigil service commemorates the betrayal, arrest, trial, and suffering of Christ. On the evening of Good Friday, we commemorate Christ’s burial. The celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord begins on Saturday afternoon with Easter Eve Divine Liturgy and the Lighting of Candles service (Jrakalooyts), and culminates with Easter Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning.
