Homenetmen Northern California Chapters Celebrate Homenetmen’s Centennial

On Saturday, October 6, 2018, the Homenetmen San Francisco, Santa Clara “Ani,” and Walnut Creek “Gars” chapters organized a gala in celebration of Homenetmen’s centennial. On behalf of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Vicar General, participated in the celebration, accompanied by Very Rev. Fr. Barouyr Shernezian, Parish Pastor of St. Gregory the Illuminator Church of San Francisco. Executive Council member Mr. Garbis Bezdjian and St. Gregory the Illuminator Church Board of Trustees Chair Mr. Rostom Aintablian and members were among the guests in attendance.

The program began with welcoming remarks by MC’s Tamar Deirmendjian and Garen Der-Khachadourian. The Vicar General delivered the invocation. The Prelate had sent a letter of blessing and commendation on this occasion, which was published in the commemorative booklet. His Eminence lauded the vision and legacy of Shavarsh Krissian and his peers who established Homenetmen to enrich the spirits of youth with the motto “A healthy mind in a healthy body,” adding that the establishment of Homenetmen, coinciding with the independence of the first Republic of Armenia a mere three years following the start of the Armenian Genocide, was an equally powerful demonstration of the Armenian people’s resilience and perseverance. He blessed and commended the founders and members of the Northern California chapters who faithfully carry the torch of Homenetmen and have demonstrated their commitment to enlightening and enriching the hearts and minds of our scouts and athletes with our religious and national heritage.

Scouts from the three chapters presented Homenetmen’s history. The keynote address was delivered by longtime Homenetmen member Mr. Jirair Sarkissian. Remarks were deliverd by Mr. Manuel Marselian on behalf of the Homenetmen Western Region and Mr. Viggen Davidian on behalf of the Central Executive. Commemorative gifts were presented to the Chairpersons of the Northern California chapters. The cake-cutting ceremony took place with the participation of founding board members from the three chapters, after which the evening continued with entertainment.
