Lebanese Tourism Minister Avedis Guidanian Visits the Prelacy

On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, welcomed the visit of the Honorable Avedis Guidanian, Lebanon’s Minister of Tourism, who is currently touring a number of communities to provide information on the upcoming Lebanese parliamentary elections. His Eminence was joined by Very Rev. Fr. Torkom Donoyan, Vicar General, Catholicosate Central Executive member Mr. Gaidzag Zetlian, Executive Council Chair Mr. Vahe Hovaguimian, and Treasurer Mr. Avo Kechichian. Mr. Guidanian was accompanied by community activist Mr. Karo Khanjian.

Following introductions, the Prelate gave an overview of the Prelacy’s efforts in the past years relating to the upcoming elections, guided by correspondences between His Holiness Catholicos Aram I and other community leaders. Mr. Guidanian gave an overview of the elections, which will be held in early May, noting that it is the first time that citizens will be allowed to vote from outside the country. The imperative of high voter turnout was emphasized, given that Lebanese-Armenians have always been diligent regarding their civic responsibilities and rights.

Mr. Guidanian reported on the current situation in Lebanon, offering hope that regional crises will subside and Lebanon and neighboring countries will have new opportunities for prosperity, and also spoke on the likely number of Armenian representatives in the new Parliament and collaboration with other factions which have been positive for our community. As for voters in Los Angeles, he reported that the Consulate General of Lebanon will adopt measures to facilitate the process.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prelate offered Mr. Guidanian a tour of the Prelacy.
