On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, the Council of Oriental Orthodox Churches of the Western United States held a meeting at St. Leon Cathedral in Burbank to discuss and draft collaborative efforts for the coming year. The Council is headed by Chairman H.G. Bishop Serapion, (Coptic Orthodox Church), H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, H.

E. Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, and H.E. Archbishop Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan (Syriac Orthodox Church). Clergy from the Armenian, Coptic, and Syriac Orthodox Churches also participated in the meeting.
The discussion encompassed the respective endeavors of the participating Churches, the strife in the Middle East and the state of Christian communities in Syria in particular, and general collaborative efforts. The clergy leaders expressed their solidarity and support of besieged Christian minorities in the Middle East. Tentative plans were made for joint Divine Liturgy and other services to be held in the coming months.
Following the meeting, the clergy were hosted to lunch.
