On Monday, February 25, 2019, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, welcomed the visit of Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, Chairman of the Committee of Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sports of the National Assembly of Armenia. The honored guest was accompanied by Consul General Dr. Armen Baibourtian, Counselor Varazdat Pahlavuni, and aide Mari Manukyan. Joining the Prelate were Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian, Rev. Fr. Movses Shannakian, Executive Council Chair Garo Esghian and member Alec Baghdasaryan.

The Prelate and guests welcomed Mr. Hayrapetyan’s second visit to the Prelacy, the first being last year during his tenure as Diaspora Minister, and wished him success in his new responsibilities. Mr. Hayrapetyan gave a general overview of the Committee’s multifaceted mission, noting that the sphere of education and culture are of special importance.
His Eminence spoke of the Prelacy’s educational endeavors, in particular the publication of Armenian language and history textbooks. Considering that textbooks for Diaspora communities are published in Armenia as well, all expressed the importance of sharing experiences and ideas in this mission. Mr. Hayrapetyan affirmed his support for the preservation of Western Armenian, adding that his work encompasses both dialects.
The Consul General expressed his wish for frequent visits by Mr. Hayrapetyan, while the Prelate added that such visits can also provide opportunities to hold working meetings.
In the evening, the Consulate General of Armenia hosted a community town hall meeting with Mr. Hayrapetyan at the Armenian Society of Los Angeles, which Rev. Fr. Ardak Demirjian attended on behalf of the Prelate.
