On Thursday, March 19, 2019, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students from Rose and Alex Pilibos School visited the Prelacy where they had an assembly with H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, at the “Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian” Hall and presented a moving program of prayers, hymns, songs, recitations, and piano performances commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and honoring the rebirth of the Armenian people. The Prelate was joined by Archpriest Fr. Vicken Vassilian and Archpriest Fr. Nareg Pehlivanian.
Student Nayree Panossian capably fulfilled her duties as Master of Ceremonies. In her remarks, she underscored the role of the Armenian Church and Armenian School in the development of the youth, and on behalf of her peers assured their allegiance and commitment to preserving and promoting our heritage. As to the Armenian Genocide centennial, she declared the students’ initiative to lead the charge in pursuit of our national demands.

The cultural program consisted of hymns from the Divine Liturgy, patriotic and traditional songs, poetry recitations, group songs and solos. The MC closed the program with an expression of gratitude for the Armenian Church and School. Fr. Vicken conveyed his commendation of the students and invited the Prelate to deliver his message.
The Prelate praised the students for a program which he said brings pride to our schools and commended the MC’s affirmation of allegiance to our church and nation stating, “we have and will always remember our 1.5 million martyrs and we will continue our struggle driven by our faithfulness to our heritage” His Eminence also explained the process of canonization and the ceremony that will take place in Etchmiadzin on April 23rd. “One hundred years ago our enemy tried to annihilate the Armenian people and in the words of the poet, leave just one to place in a museum. But the enemy failed, and the Armenian people were reborn and live on. The performances and expressions made by our students today is a slap in the face of the enemy,” stated the Prelate, and urged the students to continue the fight because there is still much that needs to be done. Given that the school celebrated its 45th anniversary the week before, His Eminence once again congratulated and commended them all, and concluded by blessing the students and wishing a safe trip to the eighth graders who will be visiting Washington D.C. next week.
The visit came to a close with the benediction, followed by Cilicia and the Armenian national anthem.
