Prelacy Hosts Presentation of Kevork Bedikian’s Latest Book

On the evening of Thursday, April 28, 2016, the presentation of educator and writer Kevork Bedikian’s latest book titled “Grandpa Doesn’t Know How To Read” was held at the Prelacy “Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian” Hall under the auspices of H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate. The event was organized by the Prelacy Cultural-Educational Committee and was attended by clergy, members of the Executive Council, Hamazkayin, sister organizations, and community members.

The program began with the Lord’s Prayer. On behalf of the organizing committee, Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian greeted the guests and introduced the author. As the Master of Ceremonies, Prelacy Chancellor Mr. Sarkis Mahserejian presented the program participants, Dr. Alice Kouroumian who presented the book, director-actor Mr. Setrag Bronzian who presented a dramatic reading of excerpts, and the author himself.

Prominent educator, literary expert, and linguist Dr. Alice Kouroumian presented a summation of the book, which encompasses a range of topics, including interactions between a grandfather and grandchild, personal reflections, reflections on national issues and concerns, and contemplations on panhuman matters. The book presents the author’s concerns regarding the future of the Armenian language, the assimilation of our people, and the instruction of our youth with our values. Given that Dr. Kouroumian was the author’s teacher in Aleppo, she was able to portray Mr. Bedikian’s witty nature and unique writing style. She concluded by commending the author’s devotion to our language, culture, and homeland, and wished him continued literary successes.

Mr. Bedikian conveyed his gratitude to all, to the Prelate, Executive Council member Dr. Dikran Babikian, organizing committee, program contributors, and his wife. He touched upon the life of Armenians in the Diaspora as well as his inspiration and purpose for writing, and thanked all those who appreciate the value of books and encourage his writings.

The Prelate delivered his message, which he began by commending the author and the participants who made the evening a delight and encouraging the author to continue to write by stating the Prelacy’s willingness to publish his next book. His Eminence commended Dr. Kouroumian’s apt and comprehensive presentation, Mr. Bronzian’s theatrical performance, and lauded Mr. Bedikian and all those like him who strive to revive our roots. He noted that great efforts are needed in this regard in communities far from our homeland, and wished for the impossible to be made possible with collective efforts. The Prelate concluded by advising the organizing committee to continue to organize similar events.

The program concluded with the benediction and Cilicia, after which guests enjoyed a reception while the author autographed copies of his book.
