On Monday, January 6, 2014, the Glorious Birth and Theophany of our Lord Jesus Christ was celebrated with great ceremony in Prelacy Churches with Divine Liturgy and the blessing of water symbolizing the Baptism of our Lord.
H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, conducted services and delivered his Christmas message at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale. Parish Pastors assisted at the altar. H.E. Archbishop Yeprem Tabakian also participated in the service.
The Prelate began his message with the words of the angels’ praise, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men”, saying, the earth and the heavens rejoiced for our Savior was born. Our Savior became incarnate for mankind, and it is our duty to heed His commandments and will. Our Prince, born in the most humble circumstances, came to this world to give us an example of humility and love by which to live our lives.
The Prelate noted that the Baptism of Christ in the River Jordan by John the Baptist was yet another demonstration of Christ’s obedience to God’s will which He demonstrated throughout His earthly life. The Cross used in the ceremony symbolizes Christ’s Crucifixion and ultimately His triumph over death, stated the Prelate, and those who drink from the blessed water are cleansed and humble themselves to God’s will. His Eminence also prayed for peace in Syria and for the protection of our community and innocent civilians.
At the conclusion of Divine Liturgy the Prelate conducted the blessing of water, with Alan Hamparchian serving as Godfather of the Cross. The water was distributed to the faithful to take to their homes and loved ones.
On Tuesday, January 7, memorial day was observed with requiem service and the blessing of the four corners of the world service at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills and Glendale. The Prelate presided over the service at the Hollywood Hills location.
