On Thursday, October 4, 2012, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian departed for Las Vegas to oversees the construction progress of St. Garabed Church. Accompanied by Parish Pastor Archpriest Fr. Avedis Torossian and Parish Council Chair Mr. Adroushan Armenian, the Prelate visited the site and expressed his commendation to parish community leaders for the great progress they have achieved in a short period of time.
During his visit, the Prelate also had the opportunity to meet with Ms. Lindy Schumacher, who is the Nevada director of the Dream Fund at UCLA, under the auspices of benefactor Mr. Kirk Kerkorian. Dream Fund had recently made a generous donation to the Las Vegas Parish Community to assist in the construction of St. Garabed Church and Cultural Center. Ms. Schumacher, accompanied by Prelacy sponsor Mrs. Arda Yemenidjian, visited the construction site where she met with the Prelate, who was joined by Fr. Avedis and Mr. Armenian.
The Prelate conveyed his thanks and gratitude to Ms. Schumacher for the grants allocated to Prelacy Schools for the current academic year, which has alleviated the financial burdens of our schools. His Eminence also thanked the Dream Fund for their recent generosity to St. Garabed Church and Cultural Center, which will greatly assist the community in their plans to have the complex be the heart of the community, the spiritual and cultural center for youth and adults alike.
Prelacy Executive Council member and Building Committee Chair Mr. Vahan Bezdikian joined the Prelate in Las Vegas on Thursday evening to observe the progress and discuss the next phases of the project.
On the occasion of the Prelate’s visit, the dome was mounted atop the Church (press release to follow in the coming days). The dome cross was consecrated by H.H. Catholicos Aram in during his Pontifical Visit to the Western Prelacy in October of 2011.
