Prelate Visits Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School

By the invitation of the school Board of Directors and administration, on Thursday, November 17, 2016, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, visited Charlotte and Elise Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School, accompanied by Archpriest Fr. Nareg Pehlivanian and Archpriest Fr. Razmig Khatchadourian.

The Prelate and clergy were greeted by Rev. Saro Shahnazarian, Principal Lina Arslanian, Board of Directors members, teachers, and students.

Following a tour of the new buildings and departments, the guests gathered at “Boulghourjian” Hall where the students presented a program of hymns, recitations, and songs dedicated to Armenian language and literature.

Prior to the program, the Principal welcomed and thanked the Prelate for his visit and encouragement, highlighted his decades-long service and leadership within the community, and wished him many more years of service.

At the conclusion of the program, Rev. Shahnazarian conveyed his well wishes to the Prelate and then spoke about Thanksgiving and on the importance of giving thanks to God for His blessings not just on Thanksgiving but every day of the year.

In his message, the Prelate expounded on the meaning and message of the hymns sung by the students, reiterating that we must give thanks to God every day for our blessings, for the gift of life, for our parents, our teachers, who deserve our applause and commendation he said. Citing the words of renowned writer Khachadour Apovian that language and faith sustain a nation, the Prelate urged the students to uphold our faith and language and to read the Bible and Armenian books. Finally, on the occasion of Thanksgiving, His Eminence conveyed his well wishes to the Merdinian School family, taught the students a Thanksgiving prayer, and presented mementos to the administration and students.

The program concluded with the Lord’s Prayer. A reception followed.
