On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, received a special visit from Mr. and Mrs. Vahan and Anoush Chamlian, benefactors of Chamlian School. Given that it was the couple’s first time at the Prelacy, the purpose of the visit was to become better acquainted with the Prelacy’s mission and to express their support for the upcoming visit of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I.
The Prelate gave the guests a tour of the headquarters, including the new Armenian Genocide monument, and an overview of the Prelacy’s endeavors. Mr. and Mrs. Chamlian commended the work carried out at the Prelacy and wished continued successes to the Prelate and the Prelacy’s mission. Furthermore, Mr. and Mrs. Chamlian pledged a generous donation in support of the Catholicosate’s and Prelacy’s mission, $10,000 of which will be allocated to the school.
VISIT TO CHAMLIAN SCHOOL
Afterward, the Prelate and Mr. and Mrs. Chamlian visited the eponymous school where they received a warm reception by Principal Dr. Talin Kargodorian, Vice-Principal Mrs. Rita Kaprielian, faculty, Parent Teacher Support Committee members, and 8th grade students. The Prelate conducted the blessing of salt and bread and the students presented a bouquet to Mrs. Chamlian.
Inside the campus, students sang the school anthem and two students delivered welcoming remarks expressing their delight and gratitude at personally meeting the school benefactors and at having the opportunity to attend an Armenian School. The students also thanked His Eminence for arranging the visit.
The Prelate thanked the benefactors for taking the time to visit the school and personally witness its successes. His Eminence recalled that forty years ago our community underwent an awakening with the construction of churches and schools, and at that time, understanding the needs of our youth, Mr. and Mrs. Chamlian generously undertook the benefaction of the school. Thus, the Prelate concluded stating that the students must be proud that they have benefactors who care about them and are attentive to their needs.
Addressing the students, Mr. Chamlian stated that they are blessed to have the opportunity to receive education and instruction at an Armenian School, and prayed for God to bless them with wisdom and great successes. The benefactor reflected on the establishment of the school decades prior and the hard work it took to realize the dream, and concluded by wishing that the students always maintain their national identity.
Afterward, the Prelate and Mr. and Mrs. Chamlian toured the school and classrooms. A reception hosted by the Parent Teacher Support Committee followed.
