Prelate Welcomes President of the Armenian Evangelical Community of Syria

On Thursday, October 22, 2015, Rev. Haroutune Selimian, President of the Armenian Evangelical Community of Syria and member of the Central Committee of “Syrian-Armenian Emergency Relief and Reconstruction Organization,” and Mr. Zaven Khanjian, Executive Director of the Armenian Missionary Association of America, visited the Prelacy where they had a meeting with H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate. Rev. Selimian traveled to Los Angeles for the 96th anniversary celebration of the Armenian Missionary Association of America.

The visit afforded the opportunity to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria and especially the great difficulties faced by the Armenian community in Aleppo. Rev. Selimian spoke about the issue at a public gathering held the day before. The honored guests informed the Prelate on the day to day life of the Armenians in Aleppo, stating that local organizations do their best to meet the basic needs of the community. Rev. Selimian also expressed gratitude for the staunch moral and financial support of the Diaspora, and especially of the Armenian communities of the Western United States, noting that all funds are distributed to those in need in a timely and orderly manner.

The Prelate affirmed the solidarity of our community to our brothers in Aleppo and wished for peace to be restored in Syria so that our brethren can begin the arduous process of rebuilding their lives.
