Prime Minister and Primate of Artsakh Visit the Prelacy on the Eve of the Armenia Fund Telethon


Each year on the eve of the Armenia Fund Telethon, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, and members of the Central Executive, Religious Council, Executive Council, and Ladies Auxiliary host the visit of government and religious officials from Artsakh and representatives of Armenia Fund. This year’s visit was held on the morning of Wednesday, November 25, 2015. The delegation was headed by His Excellency Ara Harutyunyan, Prime Minister of Artsakh, and H.E. Archbishop Barkev Martirosyan, Primate of Artsakh, who were joined by Mr. Robert Avetisyan, Permanent Representative of the NKR to the U.S., Honorable Valery Mkrtumyan, Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles, Mr. Ara Vardanyan, Executive Director of Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, Mr. Antranig Baghdassarian, President of Armenia Fund Western Region, and Mr.

Sarkis Kotanjian, Executive Director of Armenia Fund Western Region. Also participating in the visit was Mr. Varujan Vosganian, member of Romania’s Senate and President of the Union of Armenians in Romania, who earlier in the day had a meeting with the Prelate and Executive Council members.

The Prelate welcomed the honored guests to the Prelacy once again and reiterating his statement from the previous evening at a reception hosted by the Consulate General, once more affirmed the full support of the Prelacy and community to Artsakh and its people. The Prime Minister spoke of Artsakh’s path to development, of the historic role of Shushi, of the country as an important cultural center for centuries, and its growth and successes since the ceasefire and in particular since 2009. He then spoke of the importance of this year’s Armenia Fund Telethon, which will assist families with five or more children as well as those who are suffering the effects of the war, stating that it this and similar projects are an investment in the country’s future. In closing, the Prime Minister thanked the Prelate and Prelacy family for the warm welcome and expressed gratitude for the support of His Holiness Aram I and Catholicosate Prelacies to the construction of the “Cilicia” village and other projects.

Remarks were delivered by Executive Council Vice-Chair Dr. Dikran Babikian, Central Executive member Mr. Vahe Yacoubian, and Ladies Auxiliary Chair Mrs. Dzovig Zetlian, all of whom commended the work that is carried out for the development of Artsakh and affirmed support for the country and its citizens.

A discussion followed during which the Prime Minister reported on the basic needs of the residents of 250 villages, noting that 200 families will receive immediate assistance, on the number of war casualties, pensioners, and the number of citizens who require permanent government assistance.

At the conclusion of the visit the Prelate presented mementos to the guests.
