Monday, April 15, marks the start of Holy Week, a week of poignant services commemorating the last days of our Lord Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry.
On Holy Tuesday we recall the Parable of the Ten Maidens, which reminds us to be alert and prepared for the Lord’s second coming. The Prelate will preside over the service at Holy Martyrs Church in Encino, and the Vicar General at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale. The services start at 7:00 p.m.
Maundy Thursday encompasses a number of profound services. In the morning, Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in all Prelacy Churches commemorating the institution of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. In the afternoon, the Washing of the Feet service will take place in the example of our Lord Who washed the feet of His disciples. The Prelate will conduct the Washing of the Feet service at St. Sarkis Church in Pasadena (5:00 p.m.), and the Vicar General t Holy Martyrs Church in Encino (5:30 p.m.). Later in the evening, the somber Vigil service will take place commemorating the betrayal, arrest, and suffering of our Lord. The Prelate will preside over Vigil service at Holy Cross Cathedral in Montebello, and the Vicar General at St. Sarkis Church in Pasadena. The services start at 8:00 p.m.
On Good Friday we somberly commemorate the crucifixion and burial of our Lord. The Prelate will preside over the service at St. Garabed Church in Hollywood, and the Vicar General at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale. The services start at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, April 20th, Easter Eve will be celebrated with Divine Liturgy followed by the candle-lighting (Jrakalooyts) service. The Prelate will celebrate Easter Eve Divine Liturgy at St. Sarkis Church in Pasadena (Scripture readings at 5:00 p.m., Divine Liturgy at 5:30 p.m.), and the Vicar General at Forty Martyrs Church in Orange County (Scripture readings at 4:30 p.m., Divine Liturgy at 5:00 p.m.)
On Sunday, April 21st, we celebrate triumphant and glorious Resurrection of our Lord. The Prelate will celebrate Easter Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale, and the Vicar General at St. Garabed Church in Hollywood.
Monday, April 22nd is Easter Memorial Day. The Prelate and clergy will conduct requiem service at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills “Hall of Liberty” and Forest Lawn Glendale “Church of the Recessional” beginning at 10:00 a.m.
On Thursday, April 25, an Easter celebration will take place at Ararat Home in Mission Hills presided by the Prelate and with the participation of clergy members. A service will take place at the Nursing Facility at 10:00 a.m., followed by Divine Liturgy at the Sheen Memorial Chapel, and the blessing of the home service at the Assisted Living Facility
