Seminar for Sunday School Directors and Teachers Held at the Prelacy


On Saturday, October 22, 2016, Sunday School directors and teachers gathered at the Prelacy for a one-day seminar dedicated to Armenian Culture Month, organized by the Western Prelacy Sunday Schools’ Directorate. The day began with prayer at the “St. Dertad and St. Ashkhen” Chapel, presided by H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian. A meditation on John 16:33 followed by St. Garabed Church Sunday School Director and Sunday Schools’ Directorate Co-Chair Mr. Raffi Torossian.

The conference convened at the “Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian” Hall with welcoming remarks by St. Mary’s Church Sunday School Director and Sunday Schools’ Directorate Co-Chair Mr. Hagop Tchagaspanian. The Director of each Sunday School briefly introduced themselves and their faculty.

Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian presented the first lecture on the Armenian Apostolic Church doctrine, which included explanations on the three Ecumenical Councils that the Armenian Church participated in and the Nicene Creed. Deacon Christapor Mikayelian presented the second lecture on the legacy of our Holy Translators. The hymn dedicated to the Holy Translators was sung collectively, led by Rev. Fr. Ghevont Kirazian.

The Prelate delivered the closing message and conveyed his blessings. His Eminence highly commended the participants for their commitment to the Christian and Armenian education of our youth through the Sunday Schools. He advised them to keep abreast of the times and find new ways of instructing our youth with new energy and resources. “We must be absolutely devoted to our calling and in our service, and we must embed in the hearts and souls of our youth what our elders instilled in us, with renewed enthusiasm and spirit,” stressed the Prelate.

The seminar came to a close with the benediction and Cilicia.
