E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate. The games will be held in Armenia from August 2 – 13. Representatives from the Consulate General of Armenia, Glendale City Council, Homenetmen, AGBU, St. Mary’s Church delegates and board members participated in the ceremony, which was held in the church courtyard in front of the Genocide memorial cross-stone. A similar torch-lighting ceremony was also held on June 28, at St. Gregory the Illuminator Mother Cathedral in Antelias, Lebanon conducted by His Holiness Aram I.
Sunday’s ceremony began with the Lord’s Prayer led by the Prelate. At the conclusion of the service His Eminence lit the torch and presented it to the athlete who would then carry it to the Consulate General, where the ceremony continued. The Prelate saluted and commended the organizers and participants of the Pan-Armenian Games, noting that this year’s games have special significance as they coincide with the Armenian Genocide Centennial and are a beautiful representation of the “We remember and demand” motto and Armenia-Diaspora unity. The ceremony concluded with the Armenian national anthem.
