42ND REPRESENTATIVES ASSEMBLY BEGINS

IMG_0830On the afternoon of Friday, May 16, 2014, the 42nd Prelacy Representatives Assembly commenced at the “Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian” Hall, presided over by H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, and with the participation of Clergy, Central Executive members, Religious and Executive Councils, Delegates, Boards of Trustees Chairs and representatives, principals, directors, and members of the Board of Regents and CASPS. This year’s Assembly is hosted by the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s Church of Glendale.

The Assembly officially began with the invocation by the Prelate.  The two-day Assembly will conclude on Saturday afternoon. Details to follow.

BISHOP MEGHRIG PARIKIAN ELECTED PRELATE OF CANADA

MeghrigSerpazanOn Friday and Saturday, May 9 and May 10, the Representatives Assembly of the Prelacy of Canada was held at St. Hagop Church in Montreal presided over by H.E. Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate.

During the last session of the Assembly, the election of the Prelate was held.  H.G. Bishop Meghrig Parikian was elected to his first term as Prelate of Canada.

Earlier this week, the Prelate sent a letter of congratulations to the newly elected Prelate wishing him success in his new mission.

Following the service, the Prelate will preside over the Sunday School year-end program and awarding of diplomas.

At 3:00 p.m., the Prelate will preside over the ribbon cutting and opening ceremony of the “Hacop and Hilda Baghdassarian Gymnasium” at Chamlian School.

DIVINE LITURGY AND TRADITIONAL LUNCHEON
ON THE FEAST OF ASCENSION

Hampartsoum--english_Layout-1On Thursday, May 29, the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ will be celebrated with Divine Liturgy followed by the Prelacy Ladies Auxiliary traditional Ascension luncheon.

The celebration will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Church in Glendale.  Rev. Fr. Boghos Baltayan will celebrate Divine Liturgy and deliver the sermon.

The luncheon will follow at 11:30 a.m., at Renaissance Banquet Hall in Glendale (1236 S. Central Ave.).

This year’s luncheon is hosted by Mrs. Nvair Samuelian.

PRELACY HOSTS ARMENIAN POETRY COMPETITION

PoetryCompetitionOn Saturday, May 10, the Prelacy hosted the first annual Southern California Armenian Schools’ Poetry Competition at the “Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian” Hall.  The event was held under the auspices of the Prelacy, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Armenia in Los Angeles, and organized by the Board of Regents of Prelacy Schools, Avan Shushi Plaza Hotel, Asbarez Newspaper, and Horizon Television.

4th to 12th grade students from the following 11 Armenians Schools participated in the competition: Ari Guiragos Minassian, Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High, Marie Cabayan Elementary, Rose and Alex Pilibos, Vahan and Anoush Chamlian, AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian, AGBU Vatche and Tamar Manoukian, Arshag Dikranian, Alfred and Marguerite Hovsepian, St. Gregory Saturday School, and LARK Musical Society.

The top three students in each division, Elementary, Middle School, and High School, received prizes and certificates.

PRELATE ATTENDS SHUSHI LIBERATION DAY CELEBRATION

Shushi-Liberation1On Friday, May 9th, the Prelate attended an event at Los Angeles City Hall celebrating Victory Day and the 22nd anniversary of the Liberation at Shushi.  The event was hosted by L.A. City Councilmember Paul Krekorian, ANCA-WR, Office of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, and the Consulate General of Armenia in Los Angeles, and was held in Council Chambers.  The Prelate was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Boghos Tinkjian.
