EPISCOPAL HOLY HIGH MASS AND ORDINATION OF DEACONS
ON HOLY MARTYRS CHURCH 50TH ANNIVERSARY

EncinoChurchOn Sunday, November 3rd, 2013, Holy Martyrs Church of Encino will celebrate its name day and 50th history with Episcopal Holy High Mass, ordination of deacons and stole-bearers, and the blessing of madagh.

H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, will celebrate Divine Liturgy on this special occasion, during which he will ordain Hovig Seraydarian and Toukhman Khatchadourian as deacons, and Hagop Demirjian, Manuel Bayramian, Bedros Najarian, and Gary Markarian as stole-bearers.  The Prelate will also deliver the sermon.

Following Mass, the Prelate will conduct the blessing of madagh at “Avedissian” Hall, and for the first time, the madagh will be served in a sit-down reception featuring a cultural program.

The 50th anniversary banquet will be held on Saturday, November 9, at “Avedissian” Hall organized by the Pastor, Board of Trustees, and 50th anniversary committee.  The banquet’s Honorary President is Mr. & Mrs. Ghazaros & Betty Ghazarossian, and the hosts are Sarkis and Ruzanna Trmryan and Mr. George Titizian.

CATHOLICOSATE OF CILICIA PARTICIPATES IN
WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES 10TH ASSEMBLY

On October 30, the 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches convened in Busan, Republic of Korea, with the theme “God of life, lead us to justice and peace”. The Assembly will conclude on November 8.

The Catholicosate of Cilicia is participating in the WCC Assembly with a nine-member delegation comprised of high-ranking clergy and lay women and men representing the dioceses of the Catholicosate in the Diaspora.  Two youths representing the Catholicosate are also participating.  The participants are:

– H.E. Archbishop Sebouh Sarkissian, Iran (Prelate of Tehran)

– H.E. Archbishop Nareg Alemezian, Lebanon (Ecumenical Officer)

– H.G. Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, U.S. (Eastern Prelacy Ecumenical Officer)

-Mrs. Teni Simonian, Switzerland (Representative of the Catholicosate Ecumenical department in Europe)

– Dr. Nora Bayrakdarian-Kabakian, Lebanon (Chair, Catholicosate Ecumenical relations committee)

– Ms. Vanna Kitsinian, U.S. (Member of the WCC international relations committee)

– Mrs. Irma Balian, Lebanon (Member, Catholicosate youth committee)

– Mrs. Nazeli Kandaharian, Lebanon (Member, Armenian Church University Students committee)

– Ms. Christine Arzoumanian, Lebanon (Member, Armenian Church University Students committee)

– Ms. Grace Ohanian, Lebanon (Member, Armenian Church University Students committee)

– Ms. Agatha Aprahamian, Lebanon (Member, Armenian Church University Students committee)

His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, had received a special invitation to participate in the Assembly, but could not attend due to a scheduling conflict.  His Holiness served as Moderator of the WCC Central and Executive Committees for two terms, from 1991-2006.  He was the first Orthodox and the youngest person to be elevated to such an important position in the WCC.

PRELATE ATTENDS RECEPTION WELCOMING
NEW CONSUL GENERAL OF ARMENIA

NewArmConsulReception1On the evening of Wednesday, October 30, the Prelate attended a dinner organized by the Board of Directors of the House of Armenia to welcome new Consul General of Armenia the Honorable Sergey Sarkisov and in recognition of outgoing Consul General the Honorable Grigor Hovhannissian.  The dinner was hosted by community benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Harry & Cheryl Nadjarian at The California Club in Los Angeles.

On behalf of the Prelacy family, the Prelate welcomed Consul General Sarkisov to Los Angeles and again wished outgoing Consul General Grigor Hovhannissian success in his new post as Ambassador of Armenia to Mexico.

PRELATE ATTENDS FUNDRAISER FOR CHAMLIAN GYM

ChamlianGymFundraiser1On Friday, October 25, the Prelate attended a dinner-reception benefitting construction of Chamlian School’s new gym.  The reception was organized by the Chamlian Gym Fundraising Committee and was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Kevork and Mirna Kacharian at their residence.

The evening began with opening remarks by Mr. Raffi Kendirjian, Gymnasium Fundraising Chairperson. Following his remarks, Mr. Kendirjian invited the Prelate for the invocation and to share a few words. “About two years ago, we witnessed a historic occasion when His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, conducted the groundbreaking of the gym. In the two years since, we are exceedingly proud and happy that with the valuable support of the parents, parent-support committee, and the efforts of the Chamlian Gym Fundraising Committee, this dream is becoming a reality. A healthy body is a prerequisite for a healthy mind and spirit. This new gym will offer our students a more enhanced physical education curriculum; which will augment their overall well-being. We hope and look forward to conducting the official opening of the gym in the near future”, said His Eminence.

Principal Vazken Madenlian then spoke about the importance of the project and thanked the hosts. “This was a wonderful evening filled with lots of fun. The Kacharians were wonderful hosts, and we thank them very much”. Mrs. Mirna Kacharian, then thanked everyone for attending the event.

The event was a huge success as it raised over $27,000 for the Gymnasium Project.

ARMENIA FUND CORPORATE BOARD MEETING

On Monday, October 28, the Armenia Fund Corporate Board met at the House of Armenia. Artsakh Deputy Prime Minister, Lt. General Artur Aghabekyan,  was present to talk about the importance of the Vardenis-Martakert Highway and brief all Corporate Board members on the present day issues in Artsakh.  The Corporate Board was later joined by the leadership of community organizations for the opportunity to hear General Aghabekyan.

Rev. Fr. Ardak Demirjian participated on behalf of the Prelate.

The next Corporate Board meeting will be held on Monday, November 4th.

OUR LADY QUEEN OF MARTYRS ARMENIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
60TH ANNIVERSARY BANQUET

On the evening of Sunday, October 27, a banquet in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Armenian Catholic Church was held at Renaissance Banquet Hall in Glendale

Very Rev. Fr. Muron Aznikian attended and conveyed the Prelate’s blessings.
